Mary Ann Mieville was baptised at St Marylebone on 29 June 1831. Her father was the fantastically wealthy merchant John Louis Mieville. In 1831 the family were living at 8 York Gate, the wide terrace of Nash houses opposite St Marylebone that leads into Regent's Park. When John Louis Mieveille died in 1897 he was described as 'of 103, Lancaster-gate, and of Yverdon, Switzerland' (Morning Post, 13 September 1897). He left a fortune valued at £266,490. Of this, he bequeathed to his daughter Mary, 'in addition to sums already settled in her favour, £50,000 of 3½ per Cent Egyptian Inscribed Stock.'

Mary Ann Mieville married Augustus Sillem at St James's, Paddington, on 28 June 1854. The couple appear on the 1861 census living at Lawrie Park, Summerfield, near Beckenham in Kent, with their children, Louis Augustus, aged 5; Louisa, aged 4; Herman Walker, aged 2; and Stewart Augustus, one month old. Also present on the night of the census were six live-in servants. Her husband gave 'Merchant's Clerk, West Coast of South American' as his profession.

In 1911 Mrs Augustus Sillem was a 79-year-old widow living at 14 Queen's Gate Terrace in Kensington. She had seven servantts to look after her.

Mrs Augustus Sillem died, aged 80, on 6 January 1912 at her residence in Kensington. She left an estate valued at £26,655.
