Born at Baylham in Suffolk in 1841, Alethea Catherine Colville was the fifth daughter of Reverend William Acton Colville, Rector of Baylham, Suffolk. Her mother was Louisa Marianne Susan Frances Colville née Kelso, daughter of Major-General Robert Kelso.

Kate Colville never married. She appears on the 1901 census living with her sisters Emily, Agnes and Adela, also all unmarried, at 59 Great Cumberland Place, Marylebone. The household included five female servants.

Alethea Katherine [sic] Colville died on 28 December 1925 at 59 Great Cumberland Place, Hyde Park, London. She left an estate valued at £11614.
