Born at Baylham in Suffolk in 1837, Emily Mary Colville was the second of the six daughters of Reverend William Acton Colville, Rector of Baylham, Suffolk, and his wife Louisa Marianne Susan Frances Colville née Kelso.

She appears on the 1851 census living with her parents, her six sisters and her two brothers as the Rectory in Baylham. The household included a governess and six servants.

In 1861 she was living with her widowed mother, four sisters and one brother at Horringer House, Horningsheath, Suffolk.

Emily Colville never married. In 1901 she was living with her sisters Kate, Agnes and Adela, also all unmarried, at 59 Great Cumberland Place, Marylebone. The household included five female servants.

Emily Mary Colville died on 3 May 1906 at 59 Great Cumberland Place, Hyde Park, London. She left an estate valued at £15850.
