Mrs Basil Cochrane

Born at Cottisford in Oxfordshire, Sally Caroline FitzGerald was the daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Edward FitzGerald, later of Carrigoran, County Clare, Ireland. 

On 2 October 1839 at St Marylebone she married Basil Edward Arthur Cochrane, son of Captain the Honourable Archibald Cochrane. Their marriage produced eight children.

The family appear on the 1861 census living at Barham Court in Kent. The household included a governess and eight servants. Basil Cochrane described himself as a ‘Deputy Lieutenant and proprietor of coal mines.’

Mrs Basil Cochrane died, aged 75, on 3 January 1892 at Asfordby Hall near Melton Mowbray, Lincolnshire. She left an estate valued at £1474. 

 

Her husband died three years later leaving an estate valued at £24,697.
