Miss Mordaunt
(1839-1924)
8 July 1861

Volume 4, page 185, sitting number 4811.

[This was Miss Mordaunt’s second sitting with Silvy in less than a month. She had previously visited the studio with her mother, Lady Caroline Mordaunt, on 17 June 1861.]

Lady Caroline Mordaunt had two daughters: Mary Augusta Mordaunt, born in 1839, and Alice Mordaunt, born in 1844. Given the apparent age of the sitter in this portrait, she is, I think, more likely to be the elder of the two girls.

In 1879 Mary Augusta Mordaunt married the Reverend Humphrey Farren Hall.

The couple appear on the 1881 census living at the Vicarage in Wellesbourne Hastings, Warwickshire. Reverend Hall gave ‘Vicar of Walton’ as his profession. In 1891 the couple were living at the Rectory in Pylle Hill, Somerset. Reverend Hall was now the ‘Rector of Pylle.’

Her husband died in 1910. Mrs Hall appears on the 1911 census, a widow living with three servants at ‘The Elms,’ 22 Monk Street, Monmouth.

Mrs Mary Augusta Hall died on 1 July 1924 at her home in Monmouth. She left an estate valued at £17,521.

[From an album probably compiled by either George Charles Pratt (1799-1866), 2nd Marquess Camden or by his son, John Charles Pratt (1840-1872), from 1866 3rd Marquess Camden.]
