Volume 4, page 42, sitting number 4240.

The 1851 census shows Francis Gunnis as a widower living at 35 Abbey Road in St John's Wood. His place of birth was Uppingham in Rutlandshire and his profession was 'Linen Warehouseman.' Also present on the night of the census were his unmarried daughter, Eliza Jane Gunnis, and two servants (a cook and a housemaid).

Ten years later Francis was still at the same address. He now gave his profession as 'Merchant.' Also present was daughter Eliza Jane, only now married and with the surname Edwards. According to the Oxford Journal (6 October 1855), on 29 September 1855 at St Mark's in St John's Wood she had married the Reverend J.C. Edwards of Clare Hall, Cambridge.

Francis Gunnis died, aged 72, on 11 January 1864 at his residence, 30 Phillimore Gardens in Kensington. He was described by the Morning Post and other newspapers as 'of 30, Phillimore-gardens, Kensington, and Milk-street, City.' He left an estate valued at £40,000.
