Major North

The sitter is identified in the Silvy daybooks as 'Major North' and on the album page by his clipped signature. Unfortunately, his first name is difficult to decipher. Given the context of the album, this is probably a relation of Charles North (1828-1906), the next entry in the album, who lived at Rougham Hall in Norfolk and in 1859 married Augusta Keppel, daughter of the Reverend and Honourable Thomas Robert Keppel.

He, meaning Charles North, was the only son of Frederick North (1800-1869), for many years Member of Parliament for Hastings.
