Mrs Frances Keppel
(1810-1883)

Volume 2, page 21, sitting number 1384.

Born Frances Georgiana Sophia Marsham in 1810 at Hethersett in Norfolk, her father was Robert Marsham. On 7 September 1830 she married Reverend William Arnold Walpole Keppel.

The couple appear on the 1861 census living at Haynford in Norfolk with their children Georgiana (19), William (15), and Edward (13). Also present on the night of the census were Mrs Keppel's brother George Marsham, a 'Captain of West Norfolk Militia,' and their 77-year old widowed mother Frances Marsham. Mrs Keppel had eleven servants to help her run her household, including a butler, a footman and a groom. 

According to the a gazetteer of 1845, Haynford was 'a large straggling village' some six miles from Norwich, where 'the greater part of the soil belongs to Robert Marsham, Esq., the patron of the Church (All Saints), which was built in 1840, at the cost of about £1200, in lieu of the old one.'

Mrs Frances Keppel died on 7 June 1883 at the age of 73.
