4 February 1861

Volume 2, page 189, sitting number 2047.

Montagu John Guest (1839-1909) and Thomas Merthyr Guest (1838-1904) were sons of the wealthy ironmaster Sir Josiah Guest and Lady Charlotte Guest (née Bertie, later Schreiber), a daughter of the 11th Earl of Lindsey, who was an enthusiastic Welsh scholar and an avid collector of fans and china.

A staunch Liberal politician, Montagu Guest, who was known as 'the handsomest man in England,' was the Member of Parliament for Youghal 1869-1874 and for Wareham 1880-1885. According to Who Was Who, 1897-1915, his addresses were The Albany, Piccadilly, and 14 Brunswick Square, Brighton.

In 1877 Merthyr Guest married Lady Theodora Grosvenor, younger daughter of the 2nd Marquess of Westminster. The couple had one daughter. According to Who Was Who, 1897-1915 his address was Inwood, Henstridge, Blandford.
