Identified on the album page as 'Mrs H.R. Aikman' and in the Silvy daybooks as ‘Mrs. H.H.A. Aikman,’ this is the wife of Hugh Henry Robertson-Aikman.

Born Mary Joyce Stokes, she was baptised on 21 February 1823 at St Nicholas's Church in Leicester. Her father was Captain Thomas Stokes of the Honourable East India Company.

She married Hugh Henry Robertson-Aikman on 21 September 1858 at St James's Church, Piccadilly.

Mary Joyce Robertson-Aikman died on 24 January 1877 at Gunn's Private Hotel in Edinburgh. She left a personal estate valued at £9470.

[From an album compiled by Charles Balfour, a British wine merchant importing sherry and port from Portugal. Born in Edinburgh on 22 August 1822, his father was James Balfour. In May 1852 he married Mary Ermelinda, daughter of Robert Woodhouse of Oporto in Portugal. The couple were married at the consulate then afterwards at the British chapel in Oporto. Charles Balfour died on 12 January 1876.]
