Prince Mihailo Obrenovic
(1823-1868)

Born on 16 September 1823, Mihailo Obrenovic was the son of Prince Miloš Obrenovic. He twice reigned as Prince of Serbia, firstly from 1839 until he was deposed in 1842, and secondly from 1860 until he was assassinated on 10 June 1868.

He is remembered as the most enlightened ruler of modern Serbia. He advocated the idea of a Balkan federation against the Ottoman Empire.
