Volume 8, page 141, sitting number 10,186.
Identified in the Silvy daybooks as 'Miss Blackwood,' the sitter's clipped signature gives her name more fully as 'Isabella Blackwood.'
This is probably Isabella Blackwood, born on 5 February 1812, eldest daughter of the publisher William Blackwood, the founder and first editor of Blackwood's Magazine and the founder of the publishing house William Blackwood and Sons.
She never married and died, aged 85, on 2 January 1897 at Gogar Mount, Midlothian [Scotland]. Prior to her death she had been living for many years at 11 Charlotte Square in Edinburgh. She left an estate valued at £6728. She was buried with her family in Calton Hill Cemetery (the Old Calton Burial Ground) in Edinburgh.
