Mrs Augustus Lennox

Born in 1831 at St Peter Port on Guernsey, Amy de Beauvoir Priaulx was the eldest daughter of Joshua Priaulx of Candie.

She married firstly on 7 August 1850 at St Martin’s, Guernsey, Thomas Hutchesson, only son of Francis Perry Hutchesson, MD (Kentish Gazette, 13 August 1850). According to Alumni Oxonienses, Thomas was the second son of Dr Hutchesson and he attended Worcester College, Oxford. [His older brother was Marchant Francis Hutchesson, who also attended Worchester.] According to an article on the children of Dr Hutchesson on the website of the Priaulx Library in Guernsey: ‘Thomas Hutchesson went to Cambridge [his name does not appear in Alumni Cantabrigienses] but was expelled and placed under Mr Jessop, now the master of the High School at Norwich. From there he returned to his family with all his vicious propensities, and, to the surprise of all, married Amy, the daughter of Joshua Priaulx. The union, as might have been foreseen, was not a happy one, and after some years of improper conduct and vice, he was found drowned in the harbour of St Peter Port.’ According to an announcement in the Morning Chronicle (11 December 1855), he died on 2 December 1855, at the age of 29. He was survived by his widow and at least one son, possibly two.

She married secondly, on 3 November 1857 at Câtel Church, Guernsey, Major Augustus Frederick Francis Lennox of the Royal Artillery, eldest son of Lieutenant-Colonel Lord John George Lennox and nephew of the Duke of Richmond. Their marriage produced three children; bringing the third of these into the world caused Mrs Lennox's death. 

Mrs Amy Lennox died in childbirth on 19 October 1867.
