Volume 7, page 8, sitting number 8276.

Sometime between when this portrait was taken on 23 May 1862 and the end of June 1862, James Graham married Miss Emily Sophia Kingscote in the London district of St. George's Hanover Square.

The couple appear on the 1871 census, living at a house called Glan-y-Mor at Tormoham, near Torquay in Devon. Mr. Graham, who was 52 years old, gave his birthplace as Scotland, and his profession as "East India merchant." The couple had one son, Douglas William Graham, aged 5. Also in the house on the night of the census were a butler, a footman, a coachman and a nursery maid.
