Archduchess Gisele
A cabinet card portrait of Archduchess Gisele, daughter of Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife, the Empress Elisabeth (popularly called ‘Sisi’).

Born at Schloss Laxenburg near Vienna on 12 July 1856, Gisela was the second of the Imperial couple’s four children but the eldest to survive infancy (an elder daughter Sophie died at the age of two). In 1873 she married Prince Leopold of Bavaria (1846-1930). She died in Munich on 27 July 1932.

Photographed by J. Albert of Munich.

condition: The print shows fine spotting, mostly in the area of the background, but some also
intruding (faintly) in the area of the sitter’s face. The print is otherwise in excellent condition,
with very good tonal range. The mount is firm, solid and very clean.
