A cabinet card portrait of a beautiful Spanish actress, singer or chorine, wearing an embroidered Spanish shawl and a flower behind her ear, her hair dressed with a elaborately carved peña. A pencilled inscription verso identifies her only as ‘Cortez’, but the production and theatre are also given, Carmen at the Opéra-Comique.
Photographed by Nadar of 51, rue d’Anjou, Paris. The backplate mentions the Exposition of 1900, so the portrait was probably taken shortly after that date. |
condition: Apart from a very small amount of faint spotting, the print is in excellent condition, as is the mount. price: SOLD code: cab31 |
