|A 1/6th plate ambrotype of a young man sitting in a wicker-backed chair, wearing a checkered cravat and holding an open book on his lap.
The composition is interesting - although the chair and the book are in the centre of the frame, the young man is slouched back in his chair in such a way that he himself is not, the pose giving him an air of casual detachment and relaxed informality.
Plain brass oval mount, and ornately chased inner-frame.
Housed in a very faded and stained, tan, tooled leather case with damaged corners and edges. Single hook fastening. Lined with very faded embossed red velvet (now a pale pink).
condition: An excellent ambrotype housed in a very poor case.
