|A 1/6th plate ambrotype of a woman of about 30 looking off to the right, against a studio backdrop of a large window with a view beyond. Beautifully hand-tinted throughout.
When the ambrotype was found, it was in a badly deteriorated brown leather case, with very faded plush lining, which was stamped Hills / Photographer / Oxford in gold on the back. The black enamal backing was flaking badly. It has been removed and replaced with black paper and the image rehoused in an extremely handsome, tooled oxblood leather case with gold painted bands on the top and bottom edges, an ornate, hinged clasp, and a dark red velvet lining, all in perfect condition.
