Born in London on 4 June 1828, Lady Caroline Amelia Grosvenor was the daughter of Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquess of Westminster, and Lady Elizabeth Mary née Leveson-Gower, daughter of the 1st Duke of Sutherland.

On 22 August 1848 she married William Henry Leigh, son of Chandos Leigh, 1st Baron Leigh of Stoneleigh. The marriage produced seven children.

On 27 September 1850 her husband succeeded to his estates and titles, becoming 2nd Baron Leigh of Stoneleigh.

Lady Leigh ‘of Stoneleigh-abbey Kenilworth Warwickshire’ died, aged 77, on 24 March 1906 at the Hotel de Londres in San Remo, Italy. She left an estate valued at £6643.

'News reached Stoneleigh Abbey on Sunday of the death, at San Remo, on Saturday night of the Dowager Lady Leigh. She was on a visit to the Riviera with her daughters, the Hon. Agnes and the Hon. Cordelia Leigh, and was returning next month, arrangements having been made to spend the summer at Adlestrop House, the family place near Chipping Norton. Lady Carolina Amelia Grosvenor, fourth daughter of the second Marquis of Westminster, was married to the second Lord Leigh in 1848, and was left a widow last October. She leaves issue the present peer, Major the Hon. Rupert and the Hon. Rowland Leigh, the Countess of Jersey, and the other two daughters already mentioned. The body will be brought to Stoneleigh for burial. It was not known that Lady Leigh was seriously ill’ (Oxford Chronicle and Reading Gazette, 20 March 1906).

Lady Leigh is seen here in this 1860 portrait with her sixth child (and fourth son) the Honourable Rowland Charles Frederick Leigh, who was born at Stoneleigh Abbey on 23 May 1859. Educated at Wellington and at Trinity College, Cambridge, he became a practising barrister (he was called to the Bar on 26 January 1887). On 31 October 1898 he married Mabel Gordon, daughter of General William Washington Gordon. The marriage produced two children.

The Honourable Rowland Leigh died, aged 83, on 26 January 1943 at Hutton Park, New Jersey, USA.
