Mrs Montagu Blackett
(1831-1887)

[The sitter is identified in the Silvy daybooks as ‘Mrs. M. Blackett.’ The preceding entry in the daybooks is her husband, identified as ‘Montagu Blackett, Esq.’]

Born in London in 1831, Emma Mary Elliot was the daughter of Reverend Gilbert Elliot (later the Very Reverend Gilbert Elliot, Dean of Bristol) and his first wife, Williamina née Brydore. 

On 4 September 1862 at St James’s, Piccadilly, she married Montagu Blackett, son of Christopher Blackett. 

Montagu Blackett died on 28 May 1866 at the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva, Switzerland. He left an estate valued at £9000. 

Mrs Emma Mary Blackett ‘formerly of 30 Sussex-place Onslow-square in the County of Middlesex and afterwards of Brookside Bournemouth but late of Lissenden Branksome Wood Bournemouth’ died on 7 August 1887 at Lissenden. She left an estate valued at £19,245.
