Lieut.-Colonel Sidney Burrard

Born in 1826 at Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, Sidney Burrard was the son of Reverend Sir George Burrard,

At All Souls’s Church in Langham Place, London on 10 November 1859 he married Geraldine Augusta Richardson, ‘only daughter of W.J. Richardson, Esq., Portland Place, London, and Oak Hall, Wanstead, Essex’ (Manchester Times, 19 November 1859). 

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at Yarmouth with their daughter, aged 7, and son, aged 4, and an adult nephew, Robert Dashwood, Curate of Sheffield English in Hampshire, and his family. The household also included ten servants. 

Lieutenant-Colonel Sidney Burrard died on 7 October 1893 at 30 Landsdowne Place, Brighton. His estate was valued at £718. 

‘DEATH OF COL. SIDNEY BURRARD — We regret to record the death of Lt.-Col. Sidney Burrard, late of the Grenadier Guards, and youngest son of the Rev. Sir George Burrard, Bart., who was once incumbent of this parish. The departed gentleman resided for a great part of his life at The Mount here, and he was universally respected. Latterly he had been living in the Strand, Rye. The colonel, who had been ailing for some time, died at Brighton on Saturday last. He was 66 years old. The deepest sympathy is expressed for Mrs Burrard and the family in their sad bereavement’ (Isle of Wight County Press, 14 October 1893).

‘Lieutenant-Colonel Sidney Burrard died on the 7th inst. at Brighton in his 66th year [sic], after a long a painful illness, of paralysis of the spinal cord. He was the youngest and surviving child of the late Rev. Sir George Burrard, Bart., Chaplain to the Queen. He served 25 years in the Grenadier Guards, and was in the Crimea for the last nine months of the war’ (Nottingham Evening Post, 17 October 1893).
