Miss M. Breeks

[Identified as 'Miss M. Breeks' in the Silvy daybooks, this portrait was acquired at the same time as that of James Wilkinson Breeks and presumably shows his sister Margaret, who had previously sat for Silvy on 3 April 1861 (volume 3, page 31, sitting number 2823). Her older sister Mary had also sat for Silvy on the same day but since then Mary had married Reverend Thomas Henry Chester on 7 August 1861, so when this portrait was taken on 13 May 1862 'Miss M. Breeks' could only have been Margaret.]

Margaret Sarah Breeks was born at Warcop in Westmoreland in 1840, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Breeks. She was baptised at Warcop on 22 February 1840. 

On 31 May 1862 at Holy Trinity, Marylebone Road, she married David Thomson, a Captain in the Bombay Engineers and son of General Harry Thomson of the Indian Army.

'At Trinity Church, Marylebone, London, 31st ult., Captain David Thomson, of HM's Bombay Engineers, youngest son of General Harry Thoms, of HM's Bengal Light Cavalry, to Margaret Sarah, youngest daughter of the late Ricahrd Breeks, Esq., of Warcop, Westmoreland' (Durham Chronicle, 6 June 1862). 

A child, David Birdwood Thomson, was born at Malligaum [today Malegaon] in India the following year. A daughter, Margaret, was born in 1864.

Margaret Sarah Thomson died, aged 24, on 3 September 1864 at Malligaum in the Bombay Presidency, India. She was buried the next day.
