Mary Augusta Booth

[Identified only as 'Miss Booth' in the Silvy daybooks, the sitter is identified more fully as 'M.A. Booth' by a pencilled inscription recto in the lower margin and by an inked inscription verso, possibly her signature, giving her full name.]

Born in 1838 at Glendon Hall near Kettering in Northamptonshire, Mary Augusta Booth was the daughter of John and Augusta Booth. She was baptised at Rushton on 29 June 1838.

At the time of the 1871 census she was visiting Philip A. Browne, a ‘Gold and Silver Refiner,’ and his family at 41 Devonshire Place in Marylebone. 

On census night in 1881 she was lodging at 25 Bedford Square in Brighton.

When the census was taken in 1891 she was visiting Reverend Abiathar Hawkes and his family. Reverend Hawkes was the Rector of Rushton in Northamptonshire. 

She never married. Mary Augusta Booth died, aged 60, on 24 August 1898 at Suffolk Lodge, Rothwell, Northamptonshire. She left an estate valued at £6365. 

She was buried at Rushton on 29 August 1898.
