[The sitter is identified as 'Edward Randell Esq.' in the Silvy daybooks, although this has been transcribed as 'Edward Randall' on the National Portrait Gallery database and an inked inscription on the album page identifies him as 'Randal' with an illegibile initial. However, the same sitter had previously visited Silvy's studio in February 1863 — sitting number 12,646 — and on that occasion too his name had been recorded very clearly as 'Edward Randell Esq.' in the daybooks.]
