Reverend Charles Nicholl

Born on 14 August 1821 at Russell Square in Bloomsbury, Charles Iltid Nicholl was the third son of attorney Iltid Nicholl of Bloomsbury. Nicholl père, originally from Wales, was appointed HM Procurator General (also called the King’s Proctor) in 1815, a post he held until his death in 1844 at 9 Portland Place, London.

Educated at Eton and at Worcester College, Oxford (BA, 1849), Charles became first the Curate (in 1850) and then the Perpetual Curate (in 1851) and finally (in 1863) the Vicar of Hinton St Mary in Dorset. The living was worth £50 per annum and the population of the parish was 432 in 1869.

He appears on the 1851 census living at Hinton St Mary in Dorset with a housekeeper and a groom.

Reverend Charles Nicholl died, aged 47, on 26 January 1869 at Hinton St Mary in Dorset, leaving an estate valued at £16,000.
