'Child of Lady Manners'
(1856-1949)
[1862]

Volume 7, page 199, sitting number 9043.

Identified in the Silvy daybooks as ‘Child of Lady Manners,’ this is probably Cicely Elizabeth Adeliza Manners. Born in Ireland on 21 November 1856, her father was Lord George John Manners, third son of John Henry Manners, 5th Duke of Rutland. Her mother was Lady Adeliza Matilda Howard, daughter of Henry Charles Howard, 13th Duke of Norfolk.

She appears on the 1861 census with her parents living at 3 Hamilton Place, Mayfair, the residence of her maternal grandmother, the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk. Her brothers Charles (2) and George (10 months) were also present, along with seventeen servants including two butlers, an under-butler, a hall porter and two footmen.

She never married. In 1911 she was living with one servant at 108 St Leonard’s Road, Windsor.

When the 1939 register was compiled, she was living at 21 Earls Court Gardens with a companion and a maid.

She died, aged 92, on 29 March 1949 at Windsor, leaving an estate valued at £3574. She was buried in London’s Brompton Cemetery.
