(1783-1868)
14 August 1861

Volume 4, page 354, sitting number 5487.

Born on 30 March 1783 at Britwell House in Oxfordshire, Michael Joseph Blount was the second son of Joseph Blount and his wife Mary (née Canning).

On 26 February 1816 at St Marylebone, he married Catherine Mary Wright. The bride’s family were bankers but their business failed during the 1830s.

Michael Blount appears on the 1861 census, a 78-year-old widower living with his two sons and two servants at 1 Montagu Place, Montagu Square, Marylebone. The household also included a son-in-law, Edmund Joseph Wheble, the widower of Blount’s late daughter, Emma Catherine Wheble, who had died in 1855.

In 1851 and again in 1861 Michael gave ‘Landed Proprietor’ as his profession.

Michael Joseph Blount died, aged 84, on 15 March 1868 at his residence, 1 Montague Place. He left an estate valued at £2000. He was buried at St James’s, a Roman Catholic church in Reading.

One of his sons was the architect Gilbert R. Blount (1819-1876).
