Mrs John Clutton
(1809-1888)

Born in Marylebone on 1 January 1809, Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of George Spencer Smith, a builder.

On 22 August 1837 at St Marylebone she married John Clutton, who became the first President of the Surveyors’ Association (later the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors).

When the census was taken in 1861, the family were living at 3 Sussex Square, Bayswater with five children, aged 19 to 5, and eight servants.

Mrs John Clutton died on 16 March 1888.

When her husband died in 1896, he left an estate valued at £148,997.
