Miss Florence Colville

Born in 1839 at Baylham in Suffolk, Amy Florence Colville was the third of the six daughters of Reverend William Acton Colville, Rector of Baylham, Suffolk, and his wife Louisa Marianne Susan Frances Colville née Kelso.

She appears on the 1851 census living with her parents, her six sisters and her two brothers as the Rectory in Baylham. The household included a governess and six servants.

In 1861 she was living with her widowed mother, four sisters and one brother at Horringer House, Horningsheath, Suffolk.

On 27 June 1865 at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk she married Charles Burch Phillipps of Barham Hall, near Ipswich. Her husband was a Captain in the 6th Regiment of Foot (Naval & Military Gazette, 1 July 1865). Their marriage produced five children.

When the census was taken in 1881 the couple were living at Barham in Suffolk with three daughters, a governess and six servants, including a coachman and a groom. Charles gave ‘Justice of the Peace’ as his profession.

Major Charles Burch Phillipps died on 14 November 1882 during a voyage to Australia, leaving an estate valued at £1769.

Mrs Phillipps appears on the 1911 census living at Claydon in Suffolk with an unmarried daughter, a widowed daughter, an eleven-year-old granddaughter and three female servants.

Mrs Amy Florence Phillipps died on 8 February 1919 at Claydon Lodge near Ipswich. She left an estate valued at £1624.
