[Identified as ‘W.H. Smith-Kynnersley, Esq.’ in the Silvy daybooks, this is in fact William Henry Sneyd-Kynnersley of Highfields Hall, Uttoxeter.]

Baptised on 7 August 1835 at Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, William Henry Sneyd-Kynnersley was the second son of Clement John Sneyd-Kinnersley (1799-1840) of Loxley Park, Staffordshire, and his wife Mary, the only daughter of William Sneyd of Ashcombe Park, Staffordshire. His grandfather Thomas Sneyd, Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1829, had assumed the additional name of Kynnersley in 1815.

On 7 August 1862 at St John’s, Marchington Woodlands, Staffordshire, he married ‘Caroline Anne, only child of the late Thomas Adie, Esq., of Lichfield, and of Ombersley, Worcestershire’ (Derbyshire Advertiser and Journal, 15 August 1862).

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at 3 Douro Place, Dover, Kent.

A directory of 1876 gives their address as Morton Hall, Inkberrow, Redditch, Worcestershire.

They appear on the 1881 census, now with a nine-year-old daughter Ida Favoretta Mary Sneyd-Kynnersley, living at Morton Hall, Worcestershire. William gave as his profession ‘Proprietor farming 213 acres, employing 10 men, 1 boy and 2 women.’

In 1901 William was a widower living with his unmarried daughter Ida and three servants at Whitehall, Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury. Both father and daughter described themselves as ‘Living on own means.’

William Henry Sneyd-Kynnersley died, aged 84, on 15 June 1920 at Fairleigh, Meole Brace, Shropshire. He left an estate valued at £1193.
