Catherine Beatrice Long was baptised at Seale in Surrey on 27 September 1824. She was the second daughter of Henry Lawes Long of Hampton Lodge, Farnham; her mother was Lady Catherine née Walpole, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Orford.

When the 1861 census was taken she and her father were visiting Henry Howard and his wife, Beatrice’s older sister, at Thornbury Castle in Gloucestershire.

Her father died on 7 June 1868 at Landthorn Hatch near Farnham. He left an estate valued at £30,000.

In 1871 Beatrice was the head of the household at Landthorn Hatch, Seale Hill.  She was still at the same address, aged 86, in 1911. Also present on the night of the census were five servants.

Catherine Beatrice Long never married. She died on 10 October 1913, aged 89, leaving an estate valued at £1996.
