(1842-1916)

Volume 5, page 205, sitting number 6315.

Born on 30 July 1842, Arthur Horsendon Henry was the son of Alexander Henry and his wife Anne Frances Harriet née Grubbe. He was baptised at Great Stanmore in northwest London on 24 September 1842.

In 1868 he was admitted to act as a broker within the City of London (London City Press, 25 January 1868).

On 20 January 1880 at St Jude’s Church in South Kensington he married Octavia Ann Meynell, elder daughter of the Godfrey Meynell Meynell (London Evening Standard, 27 January 1880).

The couple appear on the 1881 census living with two servants, specifically a cook and a housemaid, at 73 Redcliffe Gardens in Kensington. Arthur gave ‘Member of London Stock Exchange’ as his profession.

A daughter was born on 27 January 1885 (Morning Post, 30 January 1885). Baptised Sybil Maud at West Brompton on 14 February 1885, she died later that same quarter. Another daughter, Claire, was born and died in 1887.

In 1891 Arthur described himself as a ‘Retired Stockbroker.’ The couple were still at 73 Redcliffe Gardens in 1911. The census of that year shows that they had only had the two children, neither of which had survived.

Arthur Horsendon Henry died, aged 74, on 23 August 1916 at 73 Redcliffe Gardens, Kensington. He left an estate valued at £30,903.
