Reverend W. W. Clarke
(1808-1881)
2 June 1864

Volume 12, page 314, sitting number 16,405.

[The sitter is identified as 'Rev. W. W. Clark' in the Silvy books. No Reverend Clark with these initials is listed in Crockford's Clerical Directory of 1868. There is, however, a Reverend William Wilcox Clarke.]

Reverend William Wilcox Clarke was educated at Wadham College, Oxford, graduating BA in 1829 and MA in 1833. He became a deacon in 1832 and a priest in 1833. In 1834 he was appointed Rector of North Wootton in Norfolk, a living in the gift of the Honourable Mary Grenville Howard. In 1868 his annual income from his North Wootton living was £240. He also became Inspector of Schools, Rural Dean of Lynn, and Honorary Canon of Norwich.

On 21 March 1848 at Christ Chruch, Marylebone, he married Lillias Bruce, 'youngest daughter of the late Alexander Bruce, Esq., of Parliament-street, and Norwood, Surrey' (Oxford Journal, 8 April 1848). Their marriage produced at least two children.

Reverend William Wilcox Clarke died, aged 74, on 3 November 1881 at North Wootton in Norfolk. He left an estate valued at £4234.
