Mrs G. Carlyon-Simmons
(1839-1915)
17 September 1864

Volume 12, page 181, sitting number 15,872.

This is probably the wife of George Francis Carlyon (1834-1923), a Colonel of the 3rd Battery of the East Kent Regiment, who assumed the name Carlyon-Simmons in 1858. His father, Clement Winstanley Carlyon, was the Rector of St Just in Cornwall.

Born Elizabeth Caroline Eliott Manning on 26 September 1839 at Calcutta in India, she was the youngest daughter of Major Francis Edward Manning of the Bengal Army. On 24 April 1860 she married George Francis Carlyon Simmons 'of the East Kent Regt. of Militia, and of Trevella House, Cornwall' (Morning Post, 26 April 1860). Their marriage produced six children.

By 1911 the couple seem to have dropped the surname Simmons.

Mrs Elizabeth Carlyon died, aged 76, at Plymouth in Devon in 1915.
