Martin Bezeth

Born at Rotterdam in the Netherlands on 12 May 1823, Martinus (Martin) Bezeth was the son of Nardus Bezeth. 

On 25 April 1863 at Holy Trinity Church in Paddington Martin Bezeth 'of Fairleigh, St Leonard's [married] Annie Attwood, only daughter of Jonathan Crocker, Esq., of Westbourne-terrace' (Morning Post, 28 April 1863). According to their marriage certificate, both their fathers were merchants. 

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at 28 Eaton Square, London, the home of Mrs Bezeth's parents. The household comprised five servants, including a butler. 

In 1881 they were living at 41 Frant Road in Frant, Sussex, a village three miles south of Tunbridge Wells. In 1891 Martin was a widower living at 44 Wynnstay Gardens with a sick nurse and two servants. In 1901 he was still at the same address, still with the same nurse in attendance. The most information he gave about his source of income was 'Own means' in 1891 and 'Living on own means' in 1901. 

Martin Bezeth died, aged 80, on 11 September 1903 at 44 Wynnstay Gardens, Kensington. He left an estate valued at £3516.
