This is probably John Merriman of Kensington, a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and a General Practitioner. Born in Kensington on 27 December 1800, he appears on the 1861 census living at 45 Kensington Square with his wife Caroline, two of their sons and four servants.

John Merriman, 'surgeon, late of Kensington-square and The Priory, Marlborough,'  died, 'after a few hours' illness,' on 24 March 1881 at West Lodge, Putney Common. He was 80 years of age (London Evening Standard, 28 March 1881). 

His estate was valued at £30,000.
