[Identified only as 'Mrs Rudd' in the Silvy daybooks, the pervious sitter is 'W. T. Rudd, Esq.', presumably this sitter's husband.]

Born at Grahtham in Lincolnshire, Mary Sophia Potchett was the daughter of the Reverend William Potchett. She was baptised at Grantham on 20 December 1819.

At Grantham in 1849 she married William Thomas Rudd, youngest son of the Reverend John Rudd, the Vicar of Blyth in Nottinghamshire.  

Her husband died, aged 49, on 20 September 1870 at The Mount, Worcester, Worcestershire. He left an estate valued at £12,000. 

According to the announcement of his death in an Irish newspaper, William Thomas Rudd was a Jusitice of the Peace in the county of Cork (Southern Reporter and Cork Commercial Courier, 22 September 1870). 

Mary Sophia Rudd died on 12 July 1883 at 1 Seagrave Villas, Cheltenham. Her estate was valued at £3805.
