Marchioness of Huntly
(1822-1893)

Born in 1822 and baptised at Barnack in Northamptonshire on 7 July 1822,  Maria Antoinetta Pegus was the daughter of Reverend Peter William Pegus and Charlotte Susannah Elizabeth née Layard.

On 9 April 1844 at St Martin-in-the-Fields, she became the second wife of the Scottish peer Charles Gordon, 10th Marquess of Huntly (1792-1863).

She died on 10 August 1893. Various newspapers reported her death. 'The Dowager Marchioness of Huntley [sic] died this morning at Longueville Hall, Orton, Huntingdonshire. Her ladyship had been ill for many weeks, suffering from an affection of the heart. The Marquis of Huntley, Lady Mary Turner, Lady and Ethel Wickham were present during her ladyship's last moments.'
