Charles Braham
(1823-1884)

Born on 19 December 1823, Charles Bampfylde Braham was the son of the celebrated tenor John Braham. He was baptized at St Mary’s in Marylebone on 6 July 1824.

He appears on the 1861 census, a 37-year-old widower living at 7 Bolton Row near Piccadilly in London.

His sister Frances (1821-1879), Countess of Waldegrave, was also a visitor to Silvy’s studio, as was his daughter Constance. 

In 1880 Constance married Edward Strachie, later raised to the peerage as Baron Starchie of Sutton Court in the County of Somerset.

Charles Bampfylde Braham died on 8 June 1884 at 103 Ebury Street, Pimlico. He left an estate valued at £3754.
