[The Silvy daybooks identify the sitter as 'Monsieur Moreira' and provide the information that he was the 'ministre du Brésil.' The sitter is also identified by a pencilled inscription verso in a period hand.]
The 1861 census shows that his full name was Francisco Inácio de Carvalho Moreira. He, his wife and their four children appear on the 1861 census living at 9 Cavendish Square, London.
The Foreign Office List for 1860 gives the date of the presentation of his letters of credence as 5 September 1855.
He died in Rio de Janeiro on 1 April 1906.
