The Marshals of France
During the Second Empire, Napoléon III named fifteen men Marshals of France. This particular carte shows eight of them who had graced Disdéri’s studio with a sitting. The soldiers seen here are, from the top centre, going clockwise: Marshal Castellane, Marshal Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély, Marshal Canrobert, Marshal Randon, Marshal MacMahon (duc de Magenta), Marshal Niel, and Marshal Magnan. At the centre of the composition: Marshal Pélissier (duc de Malakoff).
