Millie and Claudie Groth, 1911
Anonymous, Enderlin, North Dakota, USA
real photo postcard

A real photo postcard showing two infants laid out in matching coffins. An inked inscription verso in a period hand identifies the children as 'Claudie Severin Groth / Born Sept. 30, 1908 / Died Feb. 20, 1911' and 'Millie Cecelia / Born Dec. 25, 1910 / Died Feb. 21, 1911.' Underneath this the inscription identifies their mother as 'Mrs E. P. Groth / Enderlin / N. Dak.'

According to the records of the Lutheran church in Enderlin, Claudie was baptised there on 25 October 1908. He appears on the 1910 census, living with his parents Espen and Bertina [sic], both born in Norway, and his nine older siblings. Espen Groth gave 'Farmer' as his profession. According to another Internet source, the full names and dates of Claudie's parents were Espen Pederson Groth (1859-1950) and Bertha Olava Groth (1868-1942).

Photographer unidentified.

The postcard measures 3.4" by 5.4" (82 mm by 137 mm) including white borders on three sides (not shown in scan).
