Given the conventions of post-mortem portraiture, the photograph presumably shows a son taking leave of his dead mother, though other interpretations are possible. 

The print measures 4.2" by 6.7" (12.1 cm by 17 cm) and is mounted on a mid-brown piece of Bristol board measuring 8.2" by 10.4" (20.8 cm by 26.6 cm).

The date can be read on one of the wreaths in the background. The woman's surname, Laucinš, is also legible. The words printed on the other ribbons are in Latvian, so presumably, the location is Latvia.
