Reverend John David Glennie
(1797-1874)

John David Glennie was the eldest of the thirteen children of Dr William Glennie, who ran a school in Dulwich once attended by Lord Byron. He entered the Church and became the minister of Park Street Chapel in Mayfair. He was Secretary of the Clergy Orphan Corporation between 1841 and 1861, and was also Secretary of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (the SPCK) from 1842 to 1869. He appears on the 1861 census, living with his family at 51 Green Street in Mayfair.

His son, also John David Glennie, was Vicar of Croxton, near Eccleshall in Staffordshire. His first cousin was the celebrated golfer George Glennie.

Reverend Glennie died, aged 79. on 4 November 1874 at his residence in Green Street. He left effects valued at £7000.
