(1816-1896)
18 June 1861

Volume 4, page 101, sitting number 4475.

Lady Louisa Grace Wandesford Butler was the daughter of James Butler, Marquess of Ormonde, and Grace Louisa née Staples.

On 26 September 1840 she married Thomas Fortescue, 3rd Lord Clermont (1815-1887). On 1 February 1852, her husband obtained a revival of the Irish Barony of Clermont. He was made a peer of the United Kingdom on 2 May 1866 as Baron Clermont.

Lady Clermont died on 8 November 1896. According to the short announcement of her death in the Northern Whig (10 November 1896); 'The melancholy intelligence of the death of Lady Clermont, Ravensdale Park, reaached the town today. Ths sad event was not altogether unexpected. Her Ladyship was most generous to the poor tenants on the estate, by whom she will be greatly missed. Her many acts of charity to the poor of all creeds are well known, and her demise is mourned by all.' Similarly, the Southern Reporter announced (12 November 1896): 'The death took place on Sunday night, from bronchitis, of Lady Clermont of Ravensdale Park, County Louth. The deceased lady was the daughter of the first Marquis of Ormonde and sister of the late Lord James Butler. She married in 1840 the first Baron Clermont, who died in 1887. Lady Clermont was in her eighty-first year.'
