Colonel Higginson and family
(1826-1927, 1834-1912 and 1859-1936)

Volume 1, page 39, sitting number 359. 

Born on 21 June 1826, George Wentworth Alexander Higginson was the only son of Colonel George Powell Higginson and his wife Lady Frances Elizabeth née Needham, daughter of Francis Needham, 1st Earl of Kilmorey. 

On 29 July 1858 at St George's Hanover Square, Lieutenant-Colonel Higginson of the Grenadier Guards  married the Honourable Florence Virginia Fox Fitzpatrick, daughter of John Wilson Fitzpatrick, 1st Baron Castletown. Their first child, Francis George Higginson, was born on 6 May 1859. 

Lady Florence Fitzpatrick was born on 5 February 1834 at Moray in Scotland. 

The family appear on the 1861 census, living at 26 Norfolk Street [Westminster, Brook ward]. Also present on the night of the census were six servants, including a butler and a footman.

Lady Florence Higginson died on 5 March 1912 at Glydernscroft, Marlow, Buckinghamshire. She left an estate valued at £1450. 

General Sir George Higginson, GCB,  GCVO, died on 1 February 1927, also at Glydernscroft, leaving an estate valued at £29,952.

Their son Francis, the baby in this portrait, followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Grenadier Guards. He died in 1936.
