[Identified as 'W.C. Grove, Esq.' in the Silvy daybooks, this is probably William Chafyn Grove.]

William Chafyn Grove 'of Zeals House, Wilts.' died in Poona in the Presidency of Bombay on 13 November 1865, aged 25 (Dorset County Express and Agricultural Gazette, 19 December 1865).

'We grieve to say that a sad gloom has been thrown over this neighbourhood in consequence of the death of Mr William Chafyn Grove, of Zeals House. Intelligence arrived last week, stating that he had died somewhat suddenly at Poonah, on November 13th [...] It was the earnest hope of all his friends that residence abroad during the last few years would so far establish his health as to enable him to live amongst them from time to time, and to discharge the duties of his position, which he was ever fully prepared to recognise. In his death his family and neighbourhood have sustained a great loss by the removal of one, who, from his gentle disposition and honest, Christian bearing, ever won the just esteem of those about him, and who, whether in public or private life, whether as soldier, landlord, or friend, was universally respected and beloved. It is, we trust, some slight comfort to those who now mourn for him at home to feel, that though he rests in a distant land, far from kith and kin, his name will ever be cherished amidst his own home and neighbourhood with a just resepct and an affectionate regard' (Salisbury and Winchester Journal, 16 December 1865).
