(1832-1895)
17 December 1861

Volume 5, page 285, sitting number 6633.

Born in Marylebone on 11 February 1832, Lucy Norsworthy was the daughter of William Norsworthy.

On 19 March 1850 at St James’s in Paddington she married Captain William Francis Drummond Jervois of the Royal Engineers, the eldest son of Major-General William Jervois. The ceremony was conducted by the groom’s brother, the Rev. T. T. Henry Jervois.

Their marriage produced two sons and three daughters.

Lucy appears on the 1871 census living at 30 Cornwall Gardens in South Kensington with her three daughters. The household included a governess and five female servants.

Her husband was created a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1874 and Lucy became Lady Jervois.

Lady Jervois died on 17 March 1895 and was buried in the churchyard of Christ Church, Virginia Water, Surrey.

‘Lady Jervois, the wife of Lieutenant-General Sir William F.D. Jervois, G.C.M.G., died on March 17, at Merlwood, Virginia Water. The deceased lady was a daughter of the late Mr W. Norsworthy, and her death will be heard of with regret by all in the Colonies who had the privilege of her acquaintance. Sir William Jervois, it will be remembered, was Governor of the Straits Settlements in 1875-77, of South Australia 1877-82, and of New Zealand 1882-89’ (The Colonies and India, 23 March 1895).
