Mrs Jane Ramsbotham
(1818-1897)

Born about 1818 at Todmorden in Lancashire (today the town is in Yorkshire), Jane Fielden was the only daughter of Joshua Fielden of Waterside, Todmorden. She was baptised on 1 October 1818 at St Mary’s, Todmorden.

On 20 April 1837 at Christ Church, Todmorden, she married James Ramsbotham, eldest son of Thomas Ramsbotham of Centre Vale (Manchester Courier, 22 April 1837). Their marriage produced at least nine children.

The family appear on the 1871 living at Crowborough Warren in Sussex. James gave ‘Landowner’ as his profession. The household included eight servants, among them an eleven-year-old page.

James Ramsbotham died, aged 73, at Crowborough Warren on 6 March 1888, leaving an estate valued at £17,173.

Mrs Jane Ramsbotham of Crowborough-Warren, Crowborough, Sussex, died, aged 79, on 22 December 1897 at 2 Elsworthy Road, Primrose Hill, London, ‘the residence of her son’ (Sussex Agricultural Express, 25 December 1897). Her estate was valued at £20,698.
