Prince and Princess Gabrielli Bonaparte
(1832-1900 and 1836-1900)
A pencilled inscription verso in a period hand identifies the sitters as ‘Prince et Princesse Gabrielly [sic] Bonaparte.' The man in this portrait is the son of Prince Mario Gabrielli (1773-1841) who in 1815 married Charlotte Bonaparte (1796-1865), daughter of Lucien Bonaparte.
Don Placido Gabrielli, Principe Gabrielli, was born in Rome on 9 November 1832. On 1 February 1856 he married Augusta Amélie Maximilienne Jacqueline Bonaparte (born 9 November 1836), daughter of Charles Lucien Jules Laurent Bonaparte, 2nd Prince of Canino, and Zénaïde Laetitia Julie Bonaparte. The couple were first cousins, actually half-cousins, since their parents had the same father but different mothers.
Prince Gabrielli died in Rome in March 1900, aged 67. Princess Gabrielli died in Rome on 29 March 1900, aged 63. The couple had no children.
